Dear colleague,
On behalf of the Organizing Committee of XIII World Congress of Comparative Education Societies (WCCES) and the Mediterranean Society of Comparative Education (MESCE) it is with great pleasure that we invite you to participate in the Congress from 3rd – 7th September 2007 in Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina).
It is an honor for Sarajevo to be nominated and chosen by the MESCE and WCCES as the venue of the XIII Congress. The theme of the Congress is: Living Together: Education and Intercultural Dialogue, which as such is very significant and linked to Sarajevo, a city renowned for centuries for its intercultural and multicultural living, a city of historical, national, linguistic and religious unity and tolerance.
It is evident that intercultural understanding and tolerance is a very gentle plant, which needs to be nurtured and cared for. This is evident in the most recent conflicts in the Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina, where one short period of neglect towards this important plant almost led to its extermination. However, the plant has survived, most likely as a result of its deep and strong roots in this area. We see the XIII Congress in Sarajevo as a contribution to strengthening the plant of intercultural dialogue and understanding.
It is evident from current global events that comparative education must, amongst its most important goals and aims, include not only academic but also practical aspects of cross-cultural understanding and acceptance.
We look forward to welcoming you in Sarajevo
on behalf of the Organizing Committee,
Adila Pašalić-Kreso Mark Bray
