INFORMATION ON THE XIII WORLD CONGRESS OF COMPARATIVE EDUCATION SOCIETIES, HELD IN SARAJEVO, SEPTEMBER 3-7, 2007

We are honored to share with you that the XIII World Congress of Comparative Education Societies, held in Sarajevo, from September the 3rd through September the 7th, has been a valuable experience and great success!

During the Congress we had a bazaar of knowledge, researches and scientific thoughts. We were in a position to choose whatever we liked from this rich offer! In a pool of around 600 presentations we were having intercultural dialogues based on mutual respect and understanding, and we gave our best to learn from each other.

There were around 74 countries with around 800 participants represented at the Congress, and their citizens brought with them that many cultures. A lot of them reflect multicultural living and co-existence. As organizers of the Congress we sincerely believe that each of you found something valuable and important to bring back with you to your homes and work families. We also hope that each presentation you attended was inspirational for you in a particular and unique way.

At the closing session of the Congress Sarajevo Declaration (BH, English, Spanish) was accepted and a new WCCES president, dr. Crain Souden was elected, as well as a new WCCES vice-president dr. Adila Pašalić Kreso.

We see the Declaration as a light motif in the days to come and also during the upcoming preparations for the XIV Congress! The Declaration contains the message about the need to work on our prejudices we have towards the other, about the different, through the development of intercultural dialogue which affects the creation of a positive image about other cultures, languages, religions and all creativity that these differences create.

As organizers of this event we received lots of thanks and praises. A great many of you had a strong need throughout the Congress to express gratitude and praise the overall organization of the event, express appreciation for the program and the selection of the social events. Many of you noticed with great admiration kindness and thoughtfulness of the students and all of the members of the Congress team.

We thank you all for sharing your appreciation with us and for giving us the valuable feedback on site! Without your participation at this Congress and without your understanding that it is not at all an easy task to organize such a big event, and on this scale, we would not have been this successful. We are so glad if you recognize that behind the organization of the Congress there were a lot of people who worked hard in teams constantly nurturing good and supportive relations.

We all wish you have Sarajevo live in your memories and we would like to see that you want to come back- either to cooperate with our University or simply to come as a tourist!!
